Nine years ago, photography was a passion of mine, but doing it for a living was the furthest thing from my mind. I had just graduated college with a teaching degree and had hoped to move abroad to teach English; but finding a job oversees was taking longer than expected. So while I filled out countless applications and waited, I nannied for a beautiful family with two small children. That’s how I met Lydia, the eldest daughter…
After six months of nannying, I did end up getting a teaching position oversees in South Korea and said good-bye to this beautiful family and started a new chapter in a new country.
Now, nearly a decade later, Lydia’s family and I recently reconnected (thank you Facebook!) a few months ago. When Lydia’s mom asked if I could photograph her senior portraits, I shocked at how quickly time passed (after all the last time I saw Lydia, she was in elementary school – how in the world is she now a senior?!?!) But I was beyond thrilled to see this family again.
Lydia, who will be graduating as a class of 2017 senior at Westfield High School in Chantilly, VA, has grown into an absolutely beautiful young woman (smart too)! What stuck out to me most about Lydia during her senior photos, was her big and caring heart. Her goal is to eventually work for the UN or a foreign embassy fighting human rights policies and sustainable development. Amazing right!?!?
