It started in the 7th grade. It was then that I became aware of my appearance and slowly began down a road of negative self talk and poor self esteem. I was comparing and, in my pre-teen mind, I never seemed to measured up to my unrealistic idea of beauty.
I believed I wasn’t pretty enough, thin enough or good enough. And sadly, this lie is believed by way too many tween girls.
I can see beauty in every 10-12 girl, even if they can not see it themselves. I’m making it my personal mission to capture their God-given beauty so they can begin to see it too.
Last month I began the TWEEN CONFIDENCE PROJECT, a project whose goal is to help pre-teens look and feel beautiful and be confident in who they are right now. I was overwhelmed by the response this little project received. So many mothers and pre-teens related to my story and wanted to take part in the photography project. Over the course of winter break, I meet with, got to know and photographed some beautiful, amazing and talented pre-teens.
Over the next few weeks, I’ll be sharing their beautiful stories with you, but until then, here is just a hint of the beautiful portrait we created….
