The Benefits of an Engagement Shoot : Gainesville, VA Modern Wedding Photographer

As soon as that pretty ring is on your finger, the wedding magazines start to pile up and numerous pins are added to your “wedding board” on Pinterest! So many details: from flowers to tuxes, shoes to jewelry, cakes to wedding favors! It’s easy to get caught up in the fun preparation and planning stage. With all of that going on, it’s completely understandable why a bride may over look the engagement session. Is it really that important anyways? The answer: YES! And here are 4 reasons why:

1. It gives you and your hubby-to-be an opportunity to be professionally photographed together! Sure, you’ll get this on your wedding day, but let’s not forget this special season in your life: the one where you are so giddy at just becoming engaged, where you are still all over each other with sweet hugs and kisses, where you are  glowing with sheer excitement and joy at the thought of spending the rest of your life with your best friend. That time is worth remembering through photographs. Besides, wouldn’t it be awesome to have some non-wedding attire photos of you and your man? Wedding dresses and tuxes aren’t exactly your everyday attire.

2. You get to know your photographer & your photographer gets to know you! You’ll likely be spending most of your wedding day with your photographer so having an engagement session is a great reason to hang out, get to know each other and build a relationship based on TRUST. As a photographer, I value the time I get to spend with my brides and grooms at their engagement shoot because it helps me to better personalize my photography to fit the details that are special to them. Plus it will shed light on how you like to be photographed (serious vs relaxed vs toothy smiles) so you’ll be better prepared for your wedding day.

3. You’ll have photos to use for save the dates, announcements, guest signing albums, slide shows & home decor! It’s just plain useful to have these photos…need I say more?

4. And the number one reason to have an engagement shoot before the big day is because they are just plain FUN!!! Let’s get real here for a moment: planning a wedding can be stressful. The list of things to do can be miles long: seating charts, wedding registries, addressing, stamping and sending invitations, and so forth… Brides often times feel overwhelmed. An engagement shoot is a wonderful time to hang out with the person you love, smile and laugh together. It’s a great way to de-stress from all the wedding planning craziness and have a few hours to get all dressed up, play with each other while your photographer snaps some amazing images and then you and your hubby to be can go enjoy a date night 🙂 Talk about a perfect afternoon.
